ARTIST’S STATEMENT

I am a professional mixed-media artist, fine art photographer, instructor and entrepreneur.

I get inspiration from the shapes and textures I see in everyday things around me…

I love the visual interactions and relationships that exist in design, in nature, in all things. I am particularly attracted to textures, patterns and reflections, colors and the interplay of light and shadow. My process is very intuitive, naturally influenced by a wide range of applied materials and filtered through my personal distillation of the external world. I work in layers, technically, intellectually and spiritually.

The current inspiration for my imagery is primarily based upon the Florida Strangler fig tree. My large scale canvases enable the viewer a microscopic look, to the point of abstraction, in extraordinary detail, of the visually complex and often sensual lines created by the far reaching external root system which characterizes this tree.

MISSION STATEMENT

The purpose of my life is to give thanks to the Creator by using my gifts as an artist, teacher, and a member of the community.

I want to be of service to others and have a livelihood that brings me joy, self-sufficiency and a sense of contributing to the world as I continue to create bodies of work that examine and celebrate the extraordinary visual details that surround us.
